Today coincides with National Defense Day, we are witnessing the circulation of rupiah banknotes in 2016. This was a special moment because the simultaneous launch was the first time since independence.
This was conveyed by the Governor of Bank Indonesia Agus Martowardojo at the official launch of rupiah banknotes for the 2016 emission year at the Bank Indonesia Building, Monday (19/12). The event was also attended by President Joko Widodo and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, as quoted from kontan.co
This newly designed rupiah note consists of seven paper rupiah notes and four metal rupiah notes. In the 11 denominations of money there are 12 images of national heroes.
In BI’s previous explanation, as many as 11 new money will meet all physical characteristics in Currency Law Number 7 of 2011. These physical characteristics include the Garuda Pancasila symbol, the phrase Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), government and BI signatures, as well as the print year and emission year.
The 12 national heroes listed in the NKRI money are in accordance with Presidential Decree Number 31 of 2016 concerning the Determination of National Hero Images as the Main Image on the Front of the Paper Rupiah and the Metal Rupiah of the Republic of Indonesia.
The following is a picture of a national hero on the money of the Republic of Indonesia according to the Presidential Decree:
1. Images of National Heroes Dr. Ir Soekarno and Dr. Drs Mohammad Hatta as the main image on the front of Indonesian Rupiah paper with denominations of IDR 100,000.
2. The image of National Hero Ir H Djuanda Kartawidjaja as an image on the front of Indonesian Rupiah paper with denominations of IDR 50,000.
3. The image of National Hero Dr. G.S.S.J. Ratulangi as an image on the front of Indonesian Rupiah paper with denominations of IDR 20,000.
4. Picture of National Hero Frans Kaisiepo as an image on the front of Indonesian Rupiah paper with denominations of IDR 10,000.
5. The image of National Hero Dr. K.H. Idham Chalid as an image on the front of Indonesian Rupiah paper with denominations of IDR 5,000.
6. Picture of National Hero Mohammad Hoesni Thamrin as an image on the front of Indonesian Rupiah paper with denominations of IDR 2,000.
7. The image of National Hero Tjut Meutia as an image on the front of Indonesian Rupiah paper with denominations of IDR 1,000.
8. The image of National Hero I Gusti Ketut Pudja as an image on the front of the Indonesian Rupiah metal with denominations of IDR 1,000.
9. Picture of National Hero Lieutenant General TNI (Ret.) Tahi Bonar Simatupang as an image on the front of the Indonesian Rupiah metal with denominations of Rp 500.
10. Image of National Hero Dr Tjiptomangunkusumo as an image on the front of the Indonesian Rupiah with denominations of Rp 200.
11. Picture of National Hero Prof. Dr. Ir Herman Johanes as an image on the front of the Indonesian Rupiah with denominations of Rp 100.
“The old money is still valid as long as it has not been revoked by BI,” Agus said.
